“Don’t Chase Butterflies”

A story with a valuable lesson on success.
A young boy asked his grandfather,
“Grandpa, I want to become an actor and work in movies. When I grow up, I want to see the world, drive nice cars, and live in a glass house. I really want to achieve great success in life. Tell me, how can I achieve all my goals, and reach them quickly?”
The grandfather paused for a moment, looked around, and then spotted a beautiful butterfly sitting on a flower. Immediately, he exclaimed,
“Wow! What a wonderful butterfly! Quick… quick, chase it! Go and catch it! Don’t let it fly away. Go catch it!”
The young man rushed towards the butterfly, but as he tried to catch it, the butterfly suddenly flew away. He tried to catch it, but it was flying too fast. He ran around the garden until he was exhausted, but still, he couldn’t catch the butterfly. Out of breath, he returned to his grandfather.
“I couldn’t catch it, Grandpa! It flew away!”
The grandfather smiled for a moment, took the young man’s hands, and led him to a corner. Then he began to speak softly…
“Listen carefully, I’m going to tell you a valuable life lesson: If you spend your time chasing butterflies, they will fly away, but if you spend your time creating a beautiful garden, the butterflies will come to you.
That butterfly is like your life’s goals. It’s easy to think about achieving goals and success immediately, but the real magic happens when we focus on our skills. Just like cultivating a wonderful garden to attract butterflies, grow your talents and let success and money come to you. Don’t chase love, money, or success; they will come to you. So focus on developing your energy and your skills… This is the only secret of successful people.

STORY—-THE SUPREME GIFT

A five-year-old girl went to the supermarket with her mother. There, she saw a pearl necklace. She insisted her mother buy it for her.
“This looks pretty, but it’s expensive, and it’s just a cheap plastic necklace,” her mother said.
“I’ll ask your dad to buy you a real, original pearl necklace for your birthday… Don’t want this one, darling,” her mother said.
But the girl cried and stubbornly insisted on buying that plastic pearl necklace.
That pearl necklace became her most favorite possession.
She wore it and kept it with her wherever she went.
She wore it to school, when playing with friends, and even when sleeping.
Her mother told her repeatedly that wearing a plastic necklace around her neck could cause an allergic reaction and change the color of her skin, but the girl wouldn’t listen. She never wanted to be parted from it.
The girl’s father was very loving. Every day, he would tell his child a story before she went to sleep. One day, after finishing a story, he asked, “My dear… do you love me?”
“Yes, Dad, I love you very much.”
“Then, will you give me your pearl necklace?”
“Oh… no, Dad… You can take something else… You can even take my Pinky doll… but I won’t give you the pearl necklace, Dad…” she said.
“It’s okay, little one…” the father replied with a smile.
Another day, he asked again, “My dear… do you love me?”
“Yes, Dad, I love you very much.”
“Then, will you give me your pearl necklace?” he asked again.
“Oh… no, Dad… You can take something else… If you want, you can take my horse doll… but please don’t ask for the pearl necklace, Dad… I won’t give you that one,” the girl firmly refused this time too.
Again, with the same smile, the father said, “It’s okay, little one.”
A few days later, one day, when the father came to tell a story at night… the girl, with some hesitation, said, “Here you go, Dad…” and opened a small box, taking out her favorite pearl necklace and placing it in her father’s hands. It was old and some of the pearls were broken.
Taking it with one hand, the father took out a blue velvet box from his other pocket. Inside was a beautiful necklace made of real pearls.
He had always kept it with him. He was waiting for the child to give him her cheap necklace… As soon as she gave it to him, he gave her the real necklace.
“It was to give this to you, my dear… that I asked for that plastic necklace every day,” the father said.
This father is none other than God, who created us all.
And that child is us.
Yes. Just like this, we too cling tightly to some cheap things in our lives and are not ready to let go.
If we let go of such fake things, God will bless us with a true, eternal heaven.
Our bad habits, actions, bad friendships, relationships… whatever they may be, might be deeply intertwined with us. Even though we know they harm us, they can be hard to let go of.
But better things are waiting for us… To get such something excellent… we must let go of the fake, cheap things.
God, who is the embodiment of love, never takes anything from us without giving us something better in return.

STORY–THE SUPREME HEAVEN

ஐந்து வயது சிறுமி தன் அம்மாவுடன் சூப்பர் மார்க்கெட் சென்றிருந்தாள். அங்கே ஒரு முத்துமாலையை பார்த்தாள். அது வேண்டுமென தன் தாயிடம் அடம்பிடித்தாள்.

“இது அழகா இருக்கு, ஆனால் விலை அதிகமா இருக்கே தவிர இது தரமில்லாத ப்ளாஸ்டிக் மாலை” என்றாள் தாய்.

நான் உன்னோட பிறந்தநாளைக்கு அப்பாகிட்ட சொல்லி ‘ரியலான ஒரிஜினல் பியர்ள்ஸ்’ மாலை வாங்கி தரசொல்றேன்… இது வேண்டாம்மா” என்றாள் தாய்.

ஆனால் அச் சிறுமி, அழுது பிடிவாதம் செய்து அந்த ப்ளாஸ்டிக் முத்துமாலையை வாங்கிக் கொண்டாள்…

அந்த சிறுமிக்கு அந்த முத்துமாலை மிகவும் ஃபேவரெட் ஆன பொருளாகிப்போனது.

அதை எங்கு சென்றாலும் அணிந்திருந்தாள் உடன் வைத்திருந்தாள்.

பள்ளிக்கு செல்லும்போதும், நண்பர்களுடன் விளையாடும்போதும், ஏன் படுக்கும்போது கூட உடன் கழுத்தில் போட்டிருந்தாள்.

பிளாஸ்டிக் மாலையை கழுத்திலேயே போட்டிருந்தாள் அலர்ஜியால் கழுத்து நிறம் மாறி விடும் என என்னென்னவோ தாய் சொல்லியும் கூட கேட்கவில்லை. எப்போதும் அதைப் பிரிய மனமில்லை அவளுக்கு.

அச்சிறுமியின் அப்பா மிகவும் அன்பானவர். தினமும் அவர் குழந்தை படுக்கும் முன் கதை சொல்வார். ஒரு நாள் கதை சொல்லி முடித்ததும் கேட்டார், “மகளே.. என்னை உனக்கு பிடிக்குமா?”

”ஆமாம்பா ரொம்ப பிடிக்கும்.”

“அப்போ, உன்னோட முத்துமாலையை எனக்கு தரீயா?”

“ஓ.. முடியாதுப்பா… நீங்க வேற எதுனாச்சும் எடுத்துக்கோங்க.. என்னோட பிங்கி பொம்மையை வேணா எடுத்துக்கோங்க.. ஆனா முத்துமாலை மட்டும் தர மட்டேன்ம்பா…” என்றாள்.

“பரவால்லை குட்டிம்மா…” என்று புன்னகையுடன் பதில் சொன்னார் தந்தை.

இன்னொரு நாள் மீண்டும் கேட்டார், “மகளே… என்னை உனக்கு பிடிக்குமா?”

”ஆமாம்பா ரொம்ப பிடிக்கும்”

“அப்போ, உன்னோட முத்துமாலையை எனக்கு தரீயா?” மீண்டும் கேட்டார்.

“ஓ.. முடியாதுப்பா… நீங்க வேற எதுனாச்சும் எடுத்துக்கோங்க.. வேணும்னா என்னோட குதிரை பொம்மையை எடுத்துக்கோங்க… முத்துமாலைய மட்டும் கேக்காதீங்கப்பா ப்ளீஸ்… அதமட்டும் நான் தர மட்டேன்.” என இம்முறையும் அழுத்தமாக மறுத்தாள் அச் சிறுமி.

இப்போதும் அதே புன்னகையுடன் “பரவால்லை குட்டி..” என்றார் தந்தை.

சில நாட்களுக்கு பிறகு ஒருநாள், தந்தை இரவு கதை சொல்ல வந்தபோது….சிறுமி ஒரு தயக்கத்துடன், “இந்தாங்கப்பா…” என சொல்லிக் கொண்டே ஒரு சிறிய பெட்டியை திறந்து அதிலிருந்த அவளின் விருப்பமான முத்துமாலையை எடுத்து தந்தையின் கைகளில் தந்தாள். அது பழசாகியும்… சில முத்துக்கள் உடைந்தும் போயிருந்தன.

அதை ஒரு கையில் வாங்கிக் கொண்ட தந்தை, மறுகையால் தன் பாக்கெட்டிலிருந்து ஒரு நீல வெல்வெட் பெட்டியை எடுத்தார். அதில் உண்மையான முத்துக்களால் ஆனா ஒரு அழகிய முத்துமாலை இருந்தது.

அவர் அதை தன்னுடன் எப்போதும் வைத்திருந்தார். குழந்தை தன் மலிவான மாலையை தருவதற்காக காத்திருந்தார் அவர்… அதை தந்தவுடன் அந்த உண்மையான மாலை கொடுத்தார்.

“இதை உனக்கு தருவதற்காகத்தான்டா குட்டி… நான் தினமும் அந்த ப்ளாஸ்டிக் மாலையை கேட்டேன்…” என்றார் தந்தை.

இந்த தகப்பன் யாருமல்ல… நம் எல்லோரையும் படைத்த இறைவன்…
அந்த குழந்தைதான் நாம்.

ஆம். இதுபோலத்தான் நாமும் நம் வாழ்க்கையில் சில மலிவான விஷயங்களை கெட்டியாக பிடித்துக்கொண்டு கைவிடுவதற்கு தயாராக இல்லை.

அத்தகைய போலியான விசயங்களை கைவிட்டால் இறைவன் உண்மையான, நிரந்தரமான சொர்க்கத்தை நமக்கு பரிசளிப்பான்.

நமது மோசமான பழக்கங்கள், செயல்கள், தீய நட்புகள்,உறவுகள்… போன்ற எது வேண்டுமானாலும் நம்முடன் மிகவும் பின்னிப் பிணைந்திருக்கலாம்.. அவைகளால் நமக்கு பாதிப்பு என தெரிந்தும் கூட கைவிட கடினமானவைகளாக இருக்கலாம்…

ஆனால் அவைகளை எல்லாம்விட சிறந்தவைகள் நமக்காக காத்திருக்கின்றன…. அத்தகைய சிறப்பான ஒன்றை பெறவேண்டுமானால்… போலியான மலிவான விசயங்களை நாம் கைவிட வேண்டும்.

அன்பே வடிவான இறைவன் சிறந்த ஒன்றை தராமல் நம்மிடமிருந்து எதையும் எடுத்துக் கொள்வதில்லை.

God deals with human life

The dial of a clock is a beautiful illustration of the way God deals with human life.

The hands on the dial of the clock are God’s Hands – passing over and over again…
… the short hand, being the Hand of God’s Discipline
… the long hand, being the Hand of God’s Mercy

The short hand – the hand of Discipline…
… passes slowly, but surely
… strikes at each hour too
But the long hand – the hand of Mercy…
… passes much faster and surely too
… showers down sixtyfold of blessing for each strike of discipline

And another interesting aspect….?
Both the hands are fastened to one firm and secure point – the Beautiful Heart of the God of Love!

God’s discipline in the form of trials is a surety in life…
But much more abundant in life, are His mercies that are scattered regularly all through…

And both these dimensions – Discipline & Mercies – stem forth from the Immense Love of God!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE 

You give your best-at work, at home, in faith-
but the ones you care about barely notice.
Some ignore you.
Some speak against you.
You’re tired, not just in your body,
but deep in your soul.
You pray, and it feels like no one’s listening.
You want to believe,
but you’re surrounded by indifference and cruelty.

Still, God hasn’t walked away.
His promise stands:
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Even if your own mother abandons you,
He will never forget you.
He knows your exhaustion.
He sees your heartbreak.
He still calls you His.
And He gently says:
“Come to me… and I will give you rest.”
Accept it with simple surrender-completely.

WORRIES ARE TEMPORARY

An old lady was sitting in the park – all alone and dejected.

A young boy – who was sitting on the opposite bench – and was doing some writing work, had been constantly watching this lady who was brooding over some worry.

Finally, after a while, he stopped writing and enquired:
“Madam, I have been observing you. From morning, you have been quite worried.
What’s the matter? Maybe there is some way I can help you

The old lady looked at him and replied: “You know, my son, in life, I have been worried about so many things in life…
… but most of them never happened!”

The young man was surprised to hear that – “troubled about things, that never really happened!”

So he asked again, “Then why are you troubled now?”
She replied, with a tinge of remorse: “I am worried as to why did I unnecessarily worry so much in my life!”

Funny, isn’t it?

But, are we sometimes like this old lady?

Too much worried and disturbed in life…
… sometimes (or perhaps, very often) even about things that have not happened in life?

How wonderful you are, O God, who dwells among the faithful. Even the psalmist long ago knew that you are not only this overwhelming God who made heaven and earth, but the indwelling God who walks with us and is present with us.

Teach me to cherish your presence, which I have come to know because you came to live with us in the person of Jesus, whom we call the Christ. As I offer my heart in prayer and prepare to face this day help me to remember that morning has broken, and I am whole!
