Third Day Novena
Theme: “Mary’s Readiness to Seek the Lord”

The Third Sorrow of Mary takes us to Jerusalem, where Mary and Joseph discover that Jesus is not among their companions. With anxious hearts, they return to the city and search for Him for three long days. At last, they find Him in the Temple.
Mary’s sorrow reveals the depth of her love for Jesus. When she realised that He was missing, she did not remain where she was. She was ready to seek Him. Her love moved her to search, to persevere, and to continue until she found Him.
Mary teaches us that the spiritual life is also a journey of seeking. There are moments when we may feel that the Lord is distant from us. Because of our worries, failures, distractions, or busy lives, we may sometimes lose our awareness of His presence. At such moments, Mary invites us not to become discouraged, but to begin searching again.
To seek the Lord means to desire Him above everything else. It means making time for prayer, listening to His Word, receiving Him in the Eucharist, and recognising His presence in the people and situations around us. Sometimes, the Lord may be found precisely where we least expect Him.
Mary did not stop searching when the journey became difficult. Her perseverance tells us: “Do not give up when you cannot find the Lord. Keep seeking Him.”
Today, let us ask ourselves:
Am I truly seeking the Lord in my daily life?
Do I search for Him when I am facing difficulties?
When I feel lost or discouraged, do I turn towards Him or move away from Him?
Like Mary, may we have hearts that are always ready to seek the Lord. May we never become tired of searching for Him, especially in moments of darkness and uncertainty.
Let us also remember those who have lost their way—the young, the families who are struggling, those who have become distant from God, and all who are searching for meaning and hope.
Sorrowful Mother, teach us to seek Jesus with a loving and persevering heart. When we feel lost, lead us to Him. When we are discouraged, strengthen our faith. And when we find Him, help us to remain close to Him and treasure His presence in our hearts.
Mary, Mother of Sorrows, help us to seek the Lord always. Amen.
