“Mary’s Receptive Heart: Accepting the Will of God”
Mary’s life was a beautiful journey of openness and surrender to God’s will. From the moment she said “Let it be done to me according to your word,” she placed her whole life in God’s hands.
Her Yes was not only a joyful Yes at the Annunciation. It was a Yes that continued throughout her life—a Yes to Bethlehem, a Yes to the flight into Egypt, a Yes to the hidden years of Nazareth, and finally a painful Yes at the foot of the Cross.
When the lifeless body of Jesus was placed into her arms, Mary experienced the deepest sorrow a mother could know. Yet, even in that heartbreaking moment, she remained receptive to God’s mysterious plan. She did not understand everything, but she trusted the One who understood everything.
Mary teaches us that accepting God’s will does not mean that we will never experience pain. Rather, it means that even in our pain, we place ourselves in God's hands and continue to trust Him.
There are moments when God's plan may be different from our plans. We may pray for healing and receive a different answer. We may hope for a particular outcome, but life takes another direction. We may ask, “Why is this happening?” and find no immediate answer.
At such moments, Mary whispers to our hearts:
“Trust God. His ways are higher than our ways.”
A receptive heart does not mean a passive heart. Mary actively cooperated with God's plan. She listened, reflected, trusted and responded with courage.
Today, let us ask ourselves:
Am I willing to accept God's will even when it is difficult?
Can I surrender my plans when God leads me in another direction?
Do I trust God even when I cannot understand what He is doing?
Let us place our dreams, plans, fears and uncertainties into God's hands through Mary.
May Mary teach us to say each day, not only with our lips but with our whole life:
“Lord, I am ready. Let Your will be done in me.”
May her receptive and trusting heart become our model, so that in moments of joy and sorrow, success and failure, clarity and uncertainty, we may remain open to God's grace and faithful to His will.
Mary, Mother of Sorrows,
give us a receptive heart,
a trusting spirit and a courageous faith,
so that we may accept God's will
and follow Him faithfully all the days of our lives. Amen.
