Honouring Our Lady of Sorrows

“Mother of Sorrows, Cause of Our Joy”

Dear Reverend Fathers,  Sisters, and beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,

As a cherished tradition of our Servite Congregation, we gather at every celebration to turn our hearts with love and devotion towards our Blessed Mother Mary. Today, on this solemn Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, we come before her with grateful hearts to honour her as our Sorrowful Mother, our compassionate companion, and the Mother who lovingly leads us to Jesus.

Mary stood faithfully beneath the Cross, sharing in the suffering of her beloved Son. Her heart was pierced with sorrow, yet her faith never wavered. She teaches us that even in the darkest moments, God's love remains victorious.

Today, therefore, we come not merely to remember Mary's sorrows, but to honour her courageous faith, her steadfast love, her compassionate heart, and her total surrender to God's will.

As Servants of Mary, may we learn from her to stand beside those who suffer, to accompany those who are wounded, to console those who are sorrowful, and to bring the hope and joy of Christ to every heart.

O Mary, our Sorrowful Mother,

we come before you with love and gratitude.

We honour you today as the Mother who remained faithful beneath the Cross,

the Mother whose heart was pierced with sorrow,

the Mother who silently embraced God's mysterious plan,

and the Mother who never ceased to trust in the love of the Father.

O Mother of Sorrows,

look upon us with your tender and compassionate eyes.

Receive our joys and our sorrows,

our hopes and fears,

our struggles and dreams.

Mother of Sorrows, stand beside them

as you stood beneath the Cross of Jesus.

Strengthen their faith,

comfort their hearts,

and lead them from sorrow into hope

and from hope into the joy of Christ.

Special Blessing to Our Blessed Mother

Mother of  sorrows bless our Servite Congregation,

our communities, our families, our apostolic ministries,

and all those entrusted to our prayer and service.

May you teach us to be true Servants of Mary,

standing close to those who suffer

and bringing the tenderness of God's love to them.

With this hope and love let us venerate our beloved mother with the flowers.
